Choose the closest way you use the site. Each panel explains what should happen and what information helps if it does not.

Keyboard only

Move through links and controls in a predictable order.

  • Use Tab to move forward and Shift plus Tab to move back.
  • A skip link appears first and moves directly to the main content.
  • Visible focus shows which link, button or field is active.
  • The main menu opens with Enter or Space and closes with Escape.
If focus disappears or becomes trapped, report the page and the control.

Screen reader

Headings, landmarks and control names carry the journey.

  • Pages use a main landmark and one primary heading.
  • Interactive controls have programmatic names and state where required.
  • Informative images have text alternatives and decorative images are ignored.
  • Important instructions are written in text rather than communicated by colour alone.
If a name or reading order is unclear, include your screen reader and browser in the report.

Zoom or larger text

Narrow layouts stack instead of hiding the route.

  • Text and controls reflow into a single-column layout at narrow widths.
  • Headings wrap without being clipped or shortened.
  • Navigation and contact actions remain available on small screens.
  • Horizontal scrolling is not intended for ordinary page content.
If content overlaps at your zoom level, send the page, browser and zoom percentage.

Reduced motion

Movement is optional and never carries the only explanation.

  • The site follows the reduced-motion setting supplied by the device.
  • Decorative loops and entrance transitions stop or become immediate.
  • Interactive information remains available without animation.
  • Native disclosure controls keep long information manageable.
If movement continues after reduced motion is enabled, identify the page and section.

Forms and contact

Labels and errors should explain what the form needs.

  • Fields have labels and required information is identified.
  • Validation messages are announced and explain what needs correcting.
  • Keyboard focus moves to useful feedback after submission.
  • You can use email or telephone instead of a website form.

What has been checked

Evidence first. Claims kept narrow.

The current English templates have been checked for missing image alternatives, duplicate identifiers, unnamed controls and broken heading progression. Representative pages have also been reviewed at narrow mobile and desktop widths.

Keyboard checks cover the skip link, site menu, visible focus, native disclosures and page interactions. Automated checks are useful, but they cannot prove that every person, device and assistive-technology combination will have no difficulty.

The standard used

Working towards WCAG 2.2 AA.

The design and review target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. This is a target and working method, not a claim that the complete website has passed a formal conformance audit.

Accessibility work is ongoing. These are the boundaries of the current statement and review.

01No formal conformance claim

The site has had practical self-assessment and source checks, but not a complete independent audit with a representative range of disabled users and assistive technologies.

02External services have their own interfaces

A link may take you to an email, telephone, calendar, messaging or other provider. Ernest can improve the route to that service but cannot control the accessibility of the provider’s interface.

03The English site is the current review scope

This statement covers the published English pages on this website. Translated material is reviewed as it is updated and may not always change at the same time.
