Independent website audit
Know what to fix before you pay to fix it.
I inspect how the website explains, earns trust, works, gets found and records results. You receive evidence, priorities and decisions, not a hundred-page automated score dump.
Every recommendation states why it matters.
Start with the uncertainty
What decision does the audit need to unlock?
Choose the closest concern. The audit still follows evidence across the whole customer route, but this decides where I start and what the report must answer.
Four connected layers
A technical pass alone cannot explain weak enquiries.
A customer can abandon a perfectly valid page because the offer is vague, the proof arrives too late or the form feels risky. I review the layers together, then rank the actual blockers.
A report should make a decision
A score names a symptom. An audit explains what to do.
Automated checks are useful evidence, but they cannot know which service earns the most, whether a feature matters to staff or whether replacing the website is commercially sensible.
Automated output
47 warnings- Equal weight for unequal problems
- Little business context
- Often ends with another score
Decision audit
3 priorities- Evidence tied to the customer route
- Effort and risk made visible
- A clear next decision
What the report feels like
Evidence first. Priority second. Decision last.
Choose a sample priority. Each finding states what I observed and what the evidence supports, including when the right recommendation is to leave something alone.
The enquiry form fails after submission
The customer completes the form but receives no confirmation, and the message is not reliably delivered.
Repair and verify delivery before paying for more traffic.
Illustrative format. Your findings come from your website and business context.
Follow the whole decision
The homepage is only the first question.
I test the route a real customer must complete. The most expensive problem may sit after the page that receives the traffic.
Recurring stack
One job, several bills- Website builderkeep?
- Booking or shop toolreplace?
- Reviews and emailoverlap?
- Hosting and supportowned?
Digital spend audit
Every monthly tool must earn its place.
I list each subscription, the job it performs, where it overlaps and what happens if it is removed. The result is a keep, replace or cancel decision with payback maths.
The audit route
Context before tools. Decisions before tasks.
The process keeps the report short enough to use and specific enough to act on.
Define the result
Clarify the customer, valuable action and current concern.
Follow the route
Use the website as a customer would on relevant devices.
Collect evidence
Check technical, visibility and measurement signals.
Order the findings
Separate blockers, improvements and things to leave alone.
Hand over decisions
Deliver the evidence, priorities and practical next route.
Two clear audit routes
Pay for the diagnosis, then choose what happens next.
The audit is a finished piece of work. Implementation is separate unless a specific change is explicitly included.
Website audit
£150 - £250one-offA live website that needs better decisions
- Business goal and customer route
- Message, trust and usability review
- Technical, visibility and measurement evidence
- Ranked findings and next actions
Digital spend audit
£95 - £150one-offRecurring tools that need a keep or cancel decision
- Subscription and ownership map
- Overlap and lock-in review
- Keep, replace or cancel recommendation
- Payback maths and build credit
Useful even if I build nothing
The audit does not exist to justify a rebuild.
You can implement the findings yourself, ask me to quote or take the report to another supplier. The recommendation should survive that choice.
- No invented issue to fill a report
- No guaranteed ranking, traffic or sales result
- No destructive testing or account changes
- No implementation hidden inside the audit fee
- Unknowns and access limitations stay visible
Before the review starts
Website audit questions.
What is included in a website audit?
The audit starts with the business goal and most valuable customer action. I then review the message, trust, usability, customer route, technical health, search visibility and measurement evidence that affect that goal. You receive ranked findings, the evidence behind them and practical next decisions.
Is this an automated website audit?
No. Automated tools can provide useful evidence for performance, code and search signals, but they do not understand commercial priorities or customer context. I use relevant tools inside a human review and explain which findings matter, which can wait and which should be ignored.
Will you fix the problems as part of the audit?
Implementation is separate unless a specific small change is explicitly included in the agreed scope. This keeps the diagnosis clear and lets you choose whether to fix the work yourself, ask me for a quote or use another supplier.
Will the audit recommend a complete rebuild?
Only when the evidence supports it. The report separates repair, focused improvement, migration and genuine rebuild needs. If the current platform remains owned, maintainable and capable of supporting the customer route, replacing it simply because something newer exists is not a useful recommendation.
How is this different from an SEO audit?
An SEO audit concentrates on search visibility and the pages or technical signals that support it. This website audit follows the wider business route from arrival to enquiry, booking or sale, so message, trust, usability, forms, integrations and measurement are reviewed alongside visibility.
Does the audit include website speed?
It includes relevant performance evidence and identifies whether speed is blocking the customer route. A full speed overhaul with matched before-and-after testing is a separate implementation service. The audit helps decide whether that work deserves priority.
Do you compare my website with competitors?
Where it helps the decision, I compare visible offers, page structure, proof and customer expectations in the market. I do not treat copying a competitor as a strategy, and I cannot see their private conversion data or internal systems.
What access do you need?
A public-facing review can begin with the website and business context. Analytics, search tools, WordPress, hosting or advertising access may provide stronger evidence when relevant. I explain which access would change the confidence of a finding rather than asking for every account by default.
How long does a website audit take?
The timing depends on the website size, customer routes, available access and the decision the report must support. I confirm the scope before starting. A focused service website and a connected ecommerce system should not be presented as the same amount of review.
Can you audit WordPress, HTML or bespoke websites?
Yes. I can review WordPress, static HTML, bespoke PHP and connected web systems. The technical evidence changes with the stack, while the customer, business and prioritisation questions remain consistent.
Can I give the report to another developer or agency?
Yes. The report is intended to stand on its own. You can implement it yourself, ask me to quote or use another supplier. Where a finding depends on access or an assumption, that limitation is kept visible so another developer can verify it.
What is the digital spend audit?
It is a separate £95 to £150 review of recurring website and software costs. I list each subscription, the job it performs, overlap, lock-in and ownership, then recommend keep, replace or cancel with payback maths. The fee is credited against a later build if you choose one.
