A practical starting point

A first website with a clear job to do.

Sadler Construction wanted a professional place to show its building work and properly working company email. The website also needed to be affordable and straightforward to maintain.

The central requirement was independence: the client wanted to add new projects and photographs themselves. I designed the website around that task, so the portfolio could grow as the team completed more work.

Represent the business.

A complete identity and a bespoke website for the construction company.

Keep projects current.

A gallery the client can add to without commissioning each update.

Make contact easy.

Prominent phone details, supported by a working company email setup.

Brand and design

A recognisable company, from the logo onwards.

I created the logo, colours and branding alongside the website. The design was tailored to Sadler Construction, with a consistent presentation across the homepage, service pages and project gallery.

The client supplied photographs of their building work. I shaped the site’s visual presentation around the business and the material available, keeping the project within its modest budget.

The result gives a small construction team a clear company identity and a place where prospective customers can explore what it does.

The main requirement

Finish a job. Add it to the website.

A builder’s portfolio needs to keep pace with the work. Making the gallery easy for the client to update was the main goal of this project.

The client can add completed jobs and photographs themselves. Visitors can browse the gallery by type of work and open individual projects for a closer look.

A simple publishing routine.

  1. Choose the work to show.

Use photographs supplied by the team from their building projects.

  2. Add a project and its photographs.

The client manages new entries through the website’s editing tools.

  3. Let customers explore.

The gallery and individual project pages make completed work available beyond a phone conversation.

How the team works

An enquiry route that fits a day on site.

The team spends much of its time on building sites and does not regularly check email during the working day. The client therefore wanted the website to concentrate on phone calls.

I made phone contact prominent while also providing the company email setup requested at the start. Prospective customers can look through the work, find the relevant service and call to discuss their project.

Understand the work.

Service information explains the types of construction and refurbishment the team undertakes.

Build confidence.

Project photographs, FAQs and customer feedback sourced from Google reviews support the company’s presentation.

Start a conversation.

Visible contact details make it easy to move from browsing to speaking with the team.

Behind the design

A modest budget, spent on the things that matter.

This was a deliberately simple, inexpensive website. The work covered bespoke presentation, mobile layouts, performance optimisation and basic SEO within the available budget.

The focus was on a useful foundation: explaining the services, showing completed projects and keeping the site manageable for the owner.

Mobile use.

The layout adapts for visitors browsing the company and its work on a phone.

Performance.

Optimisation formed part of preparing the website for everyday use.

Basic SEO.

Search fundamentals supported the service and project content, within the scope of the original build.

Support as the business develops

A first website became an ongoing relationship.

The website launched in 2020, and I still work with Sadler Construction. The original brief has since led to further work on its email setup, website analytics and another business website.

How the work has continued.

  1. The original website and identity.

A bespoke first website, company branding, business email and a gallery the client can manage.

  2. A more recent email move.

I moved their email setup to JoinedInbox (https://joinedinbox.com/), the email aggregation service I created for businesses with needs like these.

  3. Cookieless analytics.

I added website statistics so the business can understand activity on the site without using tracking cookies for that measurement.

  4. A second website, now in development.

I am building an air-conditioning installation website for the same client.

The continuing work is the outcome I can show here: a client who can maintain their own portfolio and returns when the business needs something new.
